I recently purchased a construction office trailer. Inside the trailer was some surveying equipment, including a tds ranger. The ranger is password locked. Any way to bypass this?

I would contact a local dealer. Maybe they can help.

Tried that first. They didn't know. This thing is mint but worthless without cracking the password or finding a way to bypass it. Cold booting it doesn't help either.

This will unlock it but you will lose everything on it, software, licenses etc.

Hold down the Power key to display a countdown. Continue to hold
down the Power key until it counts down to zero and beeps three
times. Then immediately hold down the Fn, F, and D keys
simultaneously. After a few seconds, a screen will come up warning
that if you continue, this operation will clear the persistent store
including all user data, applications and settings.

Which model is it? Read any numbers on it you can find.
I might be interested for parts.

The password is a 4 digit number. I'd start with 0000, 1111, 2222, and so on through 9999. Then 1234, 4321 - stuff like that. Then I'd try the former owners phone number. Then maybe his survey license number. At worst, you should have the code cracked in fewer than 9999 tries. At about 4 tries a minute it will only take 42 hours at worst. But chances are you will hit it sooner. If it's new, in good shape, and has survey software loaded it's worth a few grand. Worth the time, I'd say.

Nate, offer him a $100 for it and put one of your young'uns on the job.

Yeah, find out the license number that's a likely pass code or the last for of the last owners phone number.

Shucks, That would be great! Get me an address......

I'd love to hear it took them 2 or 3 days!

Every Ranger I've purchased came from the dealer with a null entry as the password. Not "0000", just hit enter. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking that a password has to be created by the original user. I've never set one up on mine...I just hit enter. If you've tried that and it doesn't work I guess someone probably setup one.
