I used a repeater for the first time this week. Had to get signal on the other side of a 600' tall hill. I set the base radio to "base with one repeater" and set the repeater as "repeater 1" On the sensitivity there were low(base), medium and high. I chose medium and it seemed to work fine.
Is there any reason not to leave the main radio in base with one repeater mode all the time? It seems to work normally without the repeater present and this would make things easier for my guys not having to change anything if the repeater is ever needed.
What should the sensitivity on the repeater be set at? Medium worked but not sure if it was the best setting.?ÿ
I have 4 TDL450H's sitting around. How many of these repeaters can you set up if needed? We have always tried to place our base in a high spot and use a 30' tall antenna mast but in a lot of situations it might be a lot easier to use repeaters that trying to get the base in an ideal spot.?ÿ
Personally I would always use the base receiver's internal radio as my primary base radio and only pull the TDL450 out to use as a repeater when needed - why set up all that extra gear every time if you don't need it?
As far as running more than one repeater... you might be able to run two using CMRx as your message format at the highest baud rate your system supports (probably 9600, although all ours are currently at 8000). The issue you'll run into is that with multi-constellation GNSS you'll exceed your duty cycle and start dropping corrections. You could not run even a single repeater using CMR+ @ 4800bps for this reason, but 9600bps was OK.
If you do try running a second one put it near the limit of the first one and then work beyond it.
Thanks.?ÿ
I can't use my base receiver (R10) as it has no internal radio. I bought it from a guy who specifically ordered it without a radio as he only did VRS work. Got a heck of deal on it though. ?ÿMost likely we would need the radio anyway as most our work extends several miles through not so easy terrain. I know when we were using R8's we tried the internal radio and couldn't get far though I think the 10's do have better radios maybe.
I am using TT450 @9600bps with CMRx.?ÿ
What about the sensitivity settings? I always set the main base on low(base) but was not sure what to set the repeater at.?ÿ

I always leave it on medium on the repeater.
I didn't know you even could order an R10 without a radio... Yes, the radio in the R10 is much better, you can select the output up to 2W, whereas I believe the R8 radio was 0.5W
