I have a tcp1205+?ÿ with RH1200 connecting to a lieca DC RX1205T. The gun is still in excellent shape but the DC needs upgrading.
Thinking of going to a windows tablet?ÿ (serial and usb port) with Field Genius and connecting with ?ÿParani radios. Any running a similar setup. What do I need for hardware, adapters, cable.?ÿ
?ÿ
I ran the same setup for a few months with the tcrp1203+. I got an sd1000u for the data collector end and the sd1000 for the total station. There is a helpful guide on the Carlson website to get them paired up to each other.?ÿ
I originally tried just the sd1000 at the robot side but the range was weak compared to the rh17 I'm using now. It definitely needed the second adapter at the tablet end.?ÿ
Just a heads up, be prepared to have to reboot Fieldgenius regularly throughout the day. The map screen crashes a lot if you need to zoom in on point clusters. Also it drained the battery like crazy when I had the Parani's. I would have to swap the battery halfway through the day. With the RH17 or running magnet field the same tablet can go 2 days. Maybe you won't have this problem, but I did.?ÿ
The other glitches with Fieldgenius are being experienced on other tablets by other people so it's likely you will have them also.?ÿ
?ÿ
@350rocketmike Thanks for the info. So the RH17 can be used to connect to a tablet??ÿ Is it Fieldgenius that drains the battery or the Parani's.?ÿ
@hofer?ÿ
Yeah the RH17 works perfectly with my Panasonic fz-m1. I updated firmware thinking that was a requirement for the rh17 but that turned out to be false.?ÿ
The battery drain is Fieldgenius (windows shows very high cpu usage) but only when using the Parani's. It's apparently not an issue with Carlson, or maybe any other software, I've never heard of the issue from anyone else but I haven't heard of anyone else is Fieldgenius with them.?ÿ
With the amount of layout I do the cost of the rh17 ($1300 used) will probably pay itself back in no time with the time I save hooking up the cables and also in batteries in the tablet because they're going to get destroyed over time killing them dead every day.?ÿ
@350rocketmike?ÿ
If you have the tablet and rh17 why would you still be using the Parani's? Lecia sell the Panasonic tablets rebranded and they connect direct to the radio handles. Bit more limited range than the dedicated controllers, think Lecia say 150m but in practice may get out to 200m which of only doing setout would be fine I'd have though, just put a tripod on far backsights.
?ÿ
There was a post a while back from Leegreen I think about bluetooth drivers making a difference to range too, maybe message him if going down the tablet only path?
@lukenz?ÿ
I'm not using the Parani's anymore. I did for maybe 3 months before I got the boss to buy the Rh17. The Parani's were a cheap way to test out of the robot would work well for me. Based on my experience with a Sokkia SRX and a much newer Sokkia iX I didn't think it would be good enough for me to use every day, but it turned out to be miles ahead of the new Sokkia robot despite its age.?ÿ
With the Panasonic and the rh17 I can get 150-200m range depending on conditions. I tried updating drivers and stuff when I was still using the Parani's. With both of them I could occasionally go 300+m but other times I had issues at less than 100. Now with the radio handle I don't have to worry about the usb adaptor sticking out of the side of the tablet. It was a big upgrade and I don't need a new robot for a while. Just better software potentially, but that's not going to happen until they buy a new robot for me.?ÿ
@350rocketmike?ÿ
Right that makes sense.
?ÿ
I'm using a zoom90 with xpad on Android version of the 7" Panasonic tablet. While I'd rather have Lecia package if someone else is paying Geomax closer to half price for 90% of functionality and I was paying. Xpad is awesome for layout, so easy to use and has nearly of all the Lecia functions I'd want. Xpad is slick like Trimble Access not clunky like SurvCE/PC.
?ÿ
Only hassle for me using XPad with GNSS is we use grid bearings and ellipsoidal distances for boundary work here in NZ and it doesn't handle ellipsoidal distances as well as Lecia/Trimble, neither does SurvCE/PC from what I can see. From what I see in USA you guys are all grid/ground so be no issue for you. If you want new gear at almost half price of Lecia/Trimble be talking to Mark Silver at igage about a demo.
You may need get a GoeCom license for the TS if it does not currently have it.
@lukenz?ÿ
?ÿI have the RH1200 that works strictly with the rx 1250 . Not sure if the RH17 even fits on the TCRP 1205. Does the Panasonic have better blue toothrange then other tablets. I have the Xplorer Xslate.?ÿ A?ÿ rugged tablet that I just bought?ÿ on ebay.
@hofer?ÿ
Can't comment on parts compatibility, need a Lecia guru for that part. I think the best Bluetooth comes with recent phones, Panasonic tablets use 'proven' ie older tech it seems, reliable but not the fastest.
Comes down to having Bluetooth v5.0 at controller end I think (without a dedicated controller with aerial)
See Mark Silver's test here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QBjx2AicZts
@lukenz?ÿ
I had x pad demo installed on my phone ready to try it out but the demo expired before I got a chance to try it. Maybe it won't even work on the Leica but I thought it might since it's basically the same machine as a zoom 80. I haven't tried Carlson but I wish I could since some people say it and the Leica 1200 is great.?ÿ
I've honestly had enough of Microsurvey and Fieldgenius since they don't seem to have the resources to fix major crashing issues so all of us using it have to deal with crashes all day long.
After a couple months of nothing, despite talking to them via email and phone, spending my own personal time sending them raw data files etc, I finally rated the support tickets of?ÿ a couple of the main issues 1 star on their website...now they don't like me and haven't replied to any of the further info I've given them. Apparently we should just take what we get and suck it up.?ÿ
The rh17 works on the Leica 1200+, and AFAIK any 1200 series...you just have to add a profile in settings on the instrument for it to connect.?ÿ
That tablet looks pretty nice. You just need to see if it has "long range Bluetooth". The Panasonics do and I like I said I can almost always get more than 150m. If you don't have long range you probably need a USB Parani at the tablet end.?ÿ
The tsc7 didn't advertise long range Bluetooth but when I tested it I got even better range than the Panasonic.?ÿ
So it all depends on the device you're using.?ÿ
Yeah that's correct. Mine already had it when purchased. Also people said you needed upgraded firmware for the rh17 to show up...I did that and it still didn't. I had to add the profile manually and it worked fine. After that I read that was all I had to do in the first place.?ÿ
The updated firmware just made the electronic level screen really slow and laggy.?ÿ
