Hoping for some feedback on the KB-14 with adjustable declination.
Reading the description online, it seems like a bit of a Rube Goldberg affair.
Has anyone used this model extensively? Comments?
Thanks!
One way to avoid confusion in setting any compass declination is to find or obtain an external meridian or line you can set up on and adjust the compass to match.
There are many ways to do this.
You could setup fairly primitive Polaris or solar observations on a line.
Find an NGS mark with documented azimuths to other points or even a local RM might work.
Or get a couple of GPS points. The general idea is to find something that can tell you that your assumptions about which way to apply the declination are correct and to do this does not usually require much precision.

Zamboni GSuunto KB-14 Declination
Zamboni Guy,
NOAA/NGS has a nifty on-line software Tool to compute your local Magnetic Declination based on your project's location Latitude & Longitude. I use this SW to compute the Magnetic Declination for my Suuto Compass when I'm traveling on GNSS business accross North America.

Give it a test drive, from an old Ice Hockey player to the guy that cleans the Ice Surface, Zamboni Guy, lol...
