The Surveyors Historical Society will hold their 14th Annual Rendezvous September 16-17, 2010 aboard the Delta Queen Riverboat Hotel in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Rendezvous 2010 is being co-sponsored by the Tennessee Association of Professional Surveyors. The theme of Rendezvous 2010 is Mapping during the War Between the States and Contributions to Cartography by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Those arriving Wednesday evening will enjoy an informal buffet while they view the sunset, swap old war stories and watch the river roll by from the Texas deck of the Delta Queen.
Thursday begins with a breakfast buffet aboard the Delta Queen. Thursday morning will be spent learning about 19th century mapping tools and techniques with an emphasis on the War Between the States. Following a box lunch on the grounds of beautiful Coolidge Park, the entire afternoon will be spent preparing maps utilizing tools and techniques used during that War. That evening, we’ll board buses and travel to the side of Missionary Ridge to enjoy an evening of fellowship at Sugar’s Ribs which overlooks the City of Chattanooga.
Friday morning begins with some local history that had an impact not just on the United States but the entire world. Both current and former employees of TVA will share that organization’s contributions to the mapping sciences. Did you know that the standard Quad sheet was developed in Chattanooga or that photogrammetry was perfected there?
The afternoon is on your own. The SHS Board of Directors will meet at this time. The Tennessee Association of Professional Surveyors will host a golf tournament at the Jack Nicklaus designed "Bear Trace" course. SHS will have the annual swap meet set up, a number of authors will be conducting book signings, and there is a wide variety of restaurants and shopping within walking distance of the Delta Queen. That evening, we’ll have the annual SHS banquet and auction.
Rooms are still available aboard the Delta Queen. A check of their website (www.deltaqueenhotel.com) will reveal the message "Red colored days indicate nothing is available for that day." Ignore this message. The Delta Queen’s booking software is unable to handle the fact that Surveyors Historical Society has blocked off the entire boat for this event.
The Rendezvous is an opportunity to enjoy yourself while earning some of your Professional Development Hours. Go to SurveyorsHistoricalSociety.com to register today.
