Just a thought here, do the pocket sizes remain the same across every vest size, or are they relative to the size of the vest?
The ANSI 107-2004 required a certain number of square inches of background material and a certain number of square inches of retro-reflective material. I think the subsequent standards did the same. Many people complained about the vest covering their front pockets so the manufacturers started making the front shorter and the back longer. I think it started with public safety/first responders using the ansi 207-2006 standard.

I don't know. I like to be warm in winter. So, I'll want a bigger one for winter use.
If you google "party chief survey vest" his site comes up. I have poor signal here, so it's hard for me to do here.

The plot thickens. But surely it must be respective of front and back (and sides), otherwise might as well put it all out back.
Are you mad? Summertime in the south is hot and humid and the last thing I want is to wear more clothing especially a thick heavy vest. I use a shoulder harness and tool belt to carry all my essentials and it is a lot cooler. Short of working neked it is as cool as it can be.
I've worn it for a day. It made me hotter at first. Once my shirt was wet... The wet shirt made me cooler than before.?ÿ
It was how my father in law used to keep cool.

I have been using the "party chief vest" for about two years now. I bought the regular heavy one and I also got the summer weight one,?ÿMatt gave me a good deal for buying both at the same time. I have never worn the heavier one, I have only worn the summer one with?ÿthe mesh back. I really like the vest and would probably buy again if anything happened to my current one.

Nate, Heat is a ever present concern and unless the temps are cool I will not wear a vest in addition to my shirt in the summer.?ÿ And also....cotton may be king in the south but it is a terrible choice for clothing and I avoid it unless I am going through some really nasty stuff (which I also avoid). Cotton is far too hot and absorbs sweat and you just soak in a steamy sweaty unbearable mess all day.
FWIW, I wear long sleeves and a hat but my shirt and pants are synthetic and they work far better than cotton for keeping cool.
The material has to be certified and then the final product has to be certified as being visible from a certain distance from different angles. I do like your idea of a cape. It should be SS on the back for "SuperSurveyor"
You can download the standards but it will cost you $64
The newest standard 107-2015 updated 2016 does have this:
*Type R, Class 2 garments can have the smallest size in the size range compliant to the standard with a minimum of 540 in2 in background material to accommodate smaller workers. All larger sizes must have a minimum of 775 in2. No reduction in retroreflectivity is allowed and 201 in2 is still the required minimum.
A quote from Matthew Stansberry:
"We surveyors are an opinionated & crazy bunch of machete wielding mathematicians"
If Kent were around, he'd probably disagree. But, hey, ya gotta have something to do!

I used this one for a long time and they are pretty good and a good price point:?ÿ http://www.safetyline.com/avo742sc2ansiclass2vest.aspx
Currently I just got a Party Chief and like it except it is over twice the money, time will tell if it is enough better to justify the price. I usually trade out vests every 2-3 years due to fading, from what I can tell a $100 vest fades out just as fast as the $40 vests.
