I am registered in Florida, and am thinking about becoming registered in other states, mainly Georgia and/or Alabama. The issue that concerns me most is the difference in survey systems as in Georgia. Alabama wouldn't be that much different than Florida, both are PLSS states, but Georgia has its own system from what I know.

I was wondering if any of you have some good reading on surveying in Georgia, and what hoops does a registered surveyor from another state have to jump through to obtain a license.

Surveying in GA...

Georgia Land Surveying History & Law, by Farris W. Cadle, 1991, is a must have for the GA exam.

There are some good books available on the SAMSOG web site.

GA doesn't have a degree requirement, but does require 15 (quarter) hrs of surveying coursework and 5hrs of hydrology.

GA Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors

Email or post if you have any questions.

Thanks, David

Yeah, if you wanna survey in 'Jawja', ya gotta have a fiddle in the band. Seems surveyors, (read, SAMSOG surveyors), wanted to be quasi engineers and beginning along about 1995 they got their wish. Without passing the hydrology portion of the test you're a wash. But, that's turned out to be nothing compared to passing the petty individual counties' MTSs for having plats recorded in those individual counties. GIS, and county/city zoning laws, rule here. Love it, or to hell with it. I'd be on the to hell with it side if I wasn't so old, or if I hit the lottery. :-O

Best of luck to ya, though, and take care.

I became registered in Ga. in 1980. I was already registered in Fl. so all I had to take was a 4 hour exam on Ga. Law. Since then they have thrown in the Hydrology requirement.
I do remember though, there wasn’t a single question about metes and bounds procedure.

Surv8r has listed above the two sites that readily come to mind. Good luck.

Have a great week.
