I just got a galaxy s5, and I've been looking for a little cogo program of some kind for it. Anybody have any suggestions, especially for a freebie?
Also, has anyone found a decent compass that reads in surveyor bearings?
And, any more must have apps that I might need?
I did a search and found a few.
I downloaded Autocad 360, Terrain Navigator Pro, MapitFast, Benchmark, Droid48.

EDIT:
Some cogo stuff: http://www.cc4w.net
For a compass, I like SMART COMPASS. Uses the camera to show what you are looking at, gives roll & pitch info, etc.
Also, METAL DETECTOR actually works!
Dealer told me that Topcon Magnet will run on android
No Magnet on Android.
Dell Tablet, win 8, Yep 🙂
Far from Free though 🙂
Which Metal Detector APP?
What Company?
Thanks
Hello J.T.,
What exactly would you like the little COGO program to do? Do you prefer a TDS or an SMI type interface?
Regards,
Mark
"Developed by Smart Tools Co." is in the "about" page.
I'm more familiar with tds, although it don't make much difference for what I'd use it for, maybe some in between calcs and stuff, not for data collection or anything heavy.
Let me know what you need. One of my hobbies is programming.
Mine too,
what do you use for coding for Android?
How do youn handle the different devices and screen sizes?
sorry for the hijack,
chr.
This was raised in another post recently.
I have both of these and use them randomly.
Harcourt Traverse & Surveying and Traverser
These are true Aussie oriented but Harcourt does work USA units (I think).
Traverser just takes bearings as we would put into HP's
41.2536 for bearing 41°25'36", whereas Blake Harcourts app is a Tab between each part of the bearing, which though easy just isn't as fluid as racing through a one number input with just the decimal separator.
They are dirt cheap apps.
The S5. I bought a Note 3. I opted for that due to it's stylus or S Pen and find it a brilliant surveying phone.
Just don't drop it on a gravel surface! 🙁
My preference has always been SMI because it has a flow menu that anticipates your next step and you can calculate on the fly and then get back to cogo or data collection where you left off.
I'd suggest this is a topic that deserves a special place on this Forum.
It is the essential of the future that we need now.
For those who can program the HP48 or have one of the old program books for it, there is a really nice 48 emulator available for free with no ads. It uses an actual 48 Rom so it can be fully programmed just like the real thing.
Personally I was always partial to TDS (on the 48, anyway), but lately I would much prefer Simple Geospatial Solutions on android than either TDS or SMI.
Very easy to use, and would be made by a person that has quite a bit of "skin in the game".
App, that i'm involved with, has some COGO modules.

Please write in which calculation tasks you're interested, so i'll prepare some video for you.
This app has nothing to do with Surveying, but it can sure help with battery life. Also keeping Bluetooth, GPS, and wifi off when not in use can really extend battery life.

Thanks!
Thats the 1st one I tried:)
