I have been getting e-mails about Survey USA, an NSPS event that is trying to get as many surveyors as possible to make similtanious GPS observation on new points and benchmarks, to set a world record for a 1 day GPS project. I am going to set up a receiver on the SW Corner of my lot, and go to a nearby benchmark. Are any of the Beer Leggers going to participate? It will be on the 19th of March starting at 10:00 AM CST.

Steve,

I would set up 4 receivers, but I will be at the TAPS Convention in a seminar.

We talked about it a few days ago at our TAPS Board meeting.

Got a link? Is anyone going to do something useful with the data?

If I have my story correct, they did something similar in Michigan when setting up our CORS network by occupying the HARN statewide.

Here is a link to the information on the NSPS website. http://www.nspsmo.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.viewpage&pageid=851

The data will be submitted to NGS, and if it pass their QC check, it will be included in the database. Even handheld stuff will be added to the benchmark database to give us better locations on the benchmarks and aid in recovery. If you observe for 4+ hours on a 1st or 2nd order benchmark, they will probably also use the data in future geoid models. I am going to do one bench mark, and one of my co-workers is going to do one. Several surveyors that I know that do not have GPS have offered to bring refreshments, since we will be occupying points in or near parks. It Should be fun. Check with your state society, they shoulld have a coordinator appointed to organize the observations in your state.

You bet!
Every dual frequency receiver I have will be occupying something that day. If they accepted L1, I could more than double my input!
