I have seen several first gen (1965 - 289 equipped) Shelby Cobras at car shows over the years. I believe I've seen one at speed...once.

I was with the highway department at the time and if I remember right we were on SH44 south of interstate 40 just north of a little town called Burns Flats. I was off the road with a crew and we all stopped talking because we could hear what sounded like a large wasp somewhere near us...and approaching. Suddenly something British green with a small windscreen and roll bar exploded by at probably 150 mph. Scared the snot out of everyone. It was similar to being buzzed by a US Marine pilot in an F4 (a particularly loud fighter) at treetop level. Before I could inhale it was gone.

The only thing I could be sure of is he was in high gear and was twisting far more than 4500 on the ripmometer. 😉
