I reckon I can share this here but I don't want anyone in this area to know because there's a new revitalized investigation ongoing. And I haven't even told most of my family that I have recovered my Total Station.
I had some equipment stolen in January of 2019. Total station and GPS. Fast forward to a couple months ago...I got an email from Allen Precision Equipment. Someone contacted them about a piece of equipment they had sold me around 2018. Allen Precision Equipment, Donna, went out of her way to run the serial number through adatabase but the TS didn't come back as stolen. Donna went above and beyond again and sent me an email to ask me if it had been stolen. I replied it had been so Donna gave me the guy's number that bought it at a pawn shop. He was an honest person that knew it was to good to be true that he bought a $10,000 piece of equipment for $300. It's practically new. I don't think I even had it a year, when it was stolen. Anyway give a shout out to APE. They look out for you even when the cops fail you. The cops never entered my serial numbers into the national database like they were supposed to. I finally have my TS back. They are now actively searching for my GPS and have some leads. I hope to get it back too. Been 3 years folks and I finally got some of my stuff back.?ÿ
If your insurance paid out on the stolen equipment, you might want to let them know as they are most likely the owners.?ÿ Long long ago in a galaxy far way the engineering firm I worked for had a 4000SSi with 10 mb of ram stolen on its first time out of the office.?ÿ A couple of months later, after the insurance had paid out, the receiver was recovered and the insurance company took possession of it.?ÿ They consigned it to Geoline.?ÿ Of all things, I purchased it a year later when I started out on my own.?ÿ I got it for about half price.

You could buy a 4000sse or ssi maybe once a week on ebay but most of them come "Untested" with no cables.
@john-putnam Those 4000ssi were some bullet proof receivers. I used the private sector side ones in the 90??s and then the 4000ssi mgrs in the USMC. Heavy for rtk work with motor cycle batteries but good old units. ?ÿ?ÿ

Most of the "untested" ones just need their internal batteries replaced and the firmware reloaded, which is not a big deal if you're handy with a soldering iron.?ÿ ?ÿI do have a few that have fatal (to me, anyway) errors, like "phase lock loop error" and some others that I don't recall.?ÿ?ÿ
