This is a couple years old, but I find it admirable that our state board pursued this case to it’s logical conclusion.
The Board issued a Default Final Order against (unlicensed citizen) for the use of a handheld GPS unit to conduct an “unofficial survey” of a property in XXXX County.
(unlicensed citizen) was not registered with the Board, but invoiced his client $2,000 and an adjoining neighbor $2,400 for his surveying. Later, the adjoining property owner hired a PLS to complete a survey of his property and the (unlicensed citizen) “survey” was in error by 11 feet on a common boundary.
The Default Final Order assessed (unlicensed citizen) a civil penalty of $2,000 for the unlicensed practice of land surveying for violating ORS 672.025(1).
Too bad that the limit of the civil penalty assessed means this bozo still made a $2400 profit. Hopefully he was then sued by his bargain shopping clients.
I understand Bozo is not practicing hand-held GPS survey work anymore.
Probably a member of the legislature now and respected by all.

I am so glad I didn't have a mouthful of coffee when I saw that.
Bozo should find work in the geek arena.
The Oregon Board of Registration has more tooth than any board that I am licensed under in the Pacific Northwest. I wish that all of the state boards could actually enforce their state laws.
Kurt
Maine's board (like many, I suspect) is only authorized to police licensees and has no power over unlicensed practice, which falls to the State Attorney General -- for whom it is not a huge priority.
Someone made $2K on a survey?!?!?!?!?
$4400 on adjoining lots. Wonder how much the PLS made. 🙁

If you actually read the opening post, you would have written that somewhat different.
Either dropping the PLS comment or making sure the sarcasm was obvious.
😛
Good news Mike!
Seems like a pretty kind hearted penalty, but at least the precedent was set. Hopefully landowners will file suit for any civil damages they incurred as a result of this unlicensed person.
Wow Andy, maybe you should go back and read the original post.
