Never sacrifice trust on the altar of accommodation.

I like the way you think.

As with all things surveying, it depends. We do use top back curb most of the time. Around here curb stakes are used to set utility boxes, hydrants, top of foundation for display homes and a host of other improvements. Other places the surveyors hold the hands of all subs and trades so either would work.

Truth be told I haven't set 10 construction stakes this year. Trades are running models and machine control and I'm fine with that. Give me a boundary in the mountains or a complex case to work through and I'm happy...

I like face of curb for horizontal position because you end up with whole numbers on the radius points more often than staking to the back.

For grade I have no preference.

@zammo Loved that, zammo. I never presume anything from past experience with designers, but normally they dimension from face of curb and elevate from there. That is the true ƒ??breakline.ƒ?

Reading and re-reading the documents are incumbent upon the interpreter.

However, in layout, local convention makes no distinction between top face and top back of curb with regards to elevation, so while I respect your intent, I use back of curb because regionally that is the convention.

If I were required to stake kerb, however, I would easily conform. ????
