Here are four that I use all the time now on my smart phone. NGS CONTROL (free) that shows a map based on your gps then it searches a radius. You click on a point and pull up the pid sheet and then navigate to it. Very cool search tool and the price is right.

AutoCAD WS. (Free) Take your cad drawings to the field and you can even manage layers and draw in the maps. Push out changes to the field to an inspector, surveyor or engineer in real time. In the latest AutoCAD you can send them directly from AutoCAD. Nice, nice, nice.
Firm calls and needs control and we can pull it up on the screen and give it to them right then instead of a trip back to the office or digging out the hard copy books in the truck.
Our d-firms on the screen.
MapItFast. (Free) Cool little mapping tool for recon. The photo is old but I mapped around our building parking area of my new office.

And one that we will soon use to push and pull data from our main data servers (at some of us will be able to edit in the field). ArcGIS (free).
Edit attributes in the field and soon to support RTK and other more accurate means of data capture.

Just some ones that I have found useful and time saving to us in Lawton.
Deral
Cool stuff. Thanks Deral. I have the AutoCAD WS but haven't used it yet. I'll have to give these a try.
Good ones....another good one useful for doing GPS static sessions is Zombie Highway...freebie as well

In a pinch, out in the pucker brush without the dipper?
Try Metal Detector! I've had good luck with it. No substituent for the real thing, but handy to have, when you need it.
Oh and BackCountry Navigator
Very nice app.
Rick
Great post Deral. Thanks. I will be using the NGS CONTROL app.
Recently, I took the shape file that can be downloaded through NGS and created a KMZ file. I made a map in Google for the county wide control in case I needed it. That worked pretty well.
I'll have to try out the app and see if it works as well.
NGS Control is NOT in the Apple app store.... Booooooo
Try "theodolite" it is great for documenting photos
It IS in the App Store...
... under "FindAControl"...
I wish I got to hike through mountains for work! Next time I'm on a steep embankment I'll probably change my mind though.
Here is a thread from about a month ago with direct links to some of the apps Deral likes, and many other useful apps:
