In general I've always been ready to share information with other surveyors and to discuss any questions/concerns on questionable boundaries... professional courtesy.?ÿ What are your experiences and have you ever been "burned" in the process.?ÿ I recently "lost" a friendly professional relationship because of a disagreement!
I share with all of my peers, and I have no problem asking as well.?ÿ For example We are a lax state on corner records, if I run into someone's corner I didnt know would be there, I will ask them what else might you have fou d or set out here.
I am state DOT though. I work with and for the people.
Sharing info is (and should remain) a part of our profession.?ÿ
I use to office with a number of professional surveyors and we always shared our files and info.?ÿ It wasn't uncommon at all to grab a file folder from one of the other surveyors and use the data in preparing an adjacent or updated survey.?ÿ And from time to time one might find "gotcha's" or bogies in the file?ÿdata.?ÿ Some lead to significant disagreements between surveyors.?ÿ
And at noon we all still piled in a truck and drove to Jersey Mike's or Mamaveca's for lunch.?ÿ I can remember some significant disagreements but cannot remember where it ever caused a rift or hard feelings between any of us.
Do it rather regularly. ?ÿCan't think of a time where it ever led to a problem. ?ÿIt simply makes sense.
I think it is paramount to our credibility to share info. How can we be seen as impartial if we don't work together to solve an issue? Two heads are of course far superior to one.?ÿ That said, a great deal of the loaned file (including unfiled plans & old field notes) were lost.
Among a group of surveyors that can accept one another as equals and respect their help, sharing is a good thing.
When one or more can not accept any other surveyor's work than their own, sharing is a weapon.
A Harris hit the bent nail on the head. ?ÿArrogant fools exist in all professions. ?ÿShare, but do so carefully. ?ÿKnow who you are dealing with.
All of my licenses are in recording states. Sharing is the standard. If life treats me well I will never work in a non-recording state again...
