How many of you associate colors with numbers? In other words when you think of the number two, is it always yellow, or always yellow or blue?
My parents just blew my mind. I started describing the condition of cross wired senses and found out that my dad associates colors for all his numbers and my mom tastes colors! Neither one of them had discussed this with anyone and thought it was normal. They didnt even know this about each other.
Weird.
I wonder if that is why my dad (a land surveyor) is so good with math and my mom is so artistic.
Google synesthesia or read the Wikipedia article.
There's also this 2003 Scientific American article.
I don't experience anything like that. I do have a learned association between the single digit numbers and colors from learning the old resistor color code of electronics.
My thoughts ran to spending too much time with pool balls.
And, no, I do not associate certain colors with certain numbers, despite having learned the color code for resistors over 40 years ago.
The closest I can get with colors and numbers is knowing a variety of green foods taste like #2 (in a child's bathroom-need sense of the number).
I had already watched a video about the condition.
Pretty weird hearing my dad list off all the colors and my mom telling me how good yellow tastes.
Even more amazing is that they had never thought anything about it until I mentioned it.
You would think it would come up in conversation over the course of their life.
Weird but interesting stuff. My only association is a learned one from CAD layers. Never sure if zero is black or white. 😀

Each one representing a color band. I still have a bunch of those from old days.
There was another saying for the color codes but I don't recall.
As far as associating numbers and colors goes, I can't vouch for that except for maybe an old paint-by-numbers thing I might have done 40 years ago.
As far as life goes, I see things in math and logic. Doesn't make for a good personal relationship which could explain my many marital failures. I would make a great Vulcan no doubt.
