The team had an extra hour or so before dark Wednesday, so I sent then across the valley (7 miles due West) to a coordinate estimate that I had come up with over the weekend. They were looking for a Wood Post Section Corner set in 1856, which I suspected might have been remonumented by the County Surveyor with a stone sometime in the late 1800's.
My coordinate estimate was based on a 1955 Power line Survey which reported finding the ¼ Corner ½ Mile East of this corner, but that position is now in a highly disturbed area (canal, road, etc.)
Well... ~4 feet South, and ~5 feet West of my guesstimate (based on average bearings and distances between Corners in this area), they found this:
Closeup of Post
They spent the rest of the day looking in all directions from this post for evidence of wire, additional posts, etc., that would indicate an old fence line, but found none. There is no evidence in the 1938 or 2006 aerial photography that there was ever any fencing or occupation anywhere near this corner either.
Original Post? Doubtful, but possible! More likely a remonumentation. In any case, we will be back there come Spring for a full scale search and rescue of this Corner and those in the immediate area.

:good:
nice shot, sir. 5 by 4 feet sounds like quite an estimate on plss terms, no?
Paint it gold and move on to the next corner. That's a keeper.
Nice find, now how about getting a real pair of work boots;-)
Work Boots
That's sneaker weather, we don't put on the real boots until it gets cold and the snow gets a lot deeper!
🙂

Work Boots
Yep Loyal, this is the warm snow season. 😉
What is all of that white stuff on the ground? Did a tanker full of flour turn over?
