We had our Pac Crest 35w radio narrow banded 1-1/2 years ago. We could not get it to work for a year. Peter at Earl Dudley got it to working the best it ever had. It worked great. The range was a little shorter, 5 miles down from 6 under idea conditions. We used it 2 or so times a month up to the start of December. Last Friday we set up but could only get about 1500 foot range almost line of sight only. I should say we have a roof mount on top of City Hall that gave us the long range before the problem. We tried Friday, yesterday, and today with no better luck. We have changed channel, checked the antenna and cables, checked the batteries, used pdlconf to check the radio settings, and check the the OAF file in the receivers. We have tried everything we can think off. I am afraid we will have to send the radio to Pac Crest. I don't think they will fix it but want us to buy a new one. We are useing Topcon Hiper + with the Pac Crest radio. Can anybody think of anything else? Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

Did you check the frequency for interference from another transmitter? Just a though. I've been walked on before.

Everytime we have range issues it has always been either the battery is out or the antenna cable is bad. Just because it looks fine doesnt mean there arent wires streched or pulled inside.

Mostly it is always the cable.

We used a Multimeter to test the cables, antenna, and the battery. We even set up and tested the battery under load conditions. Have you tested with a multimeter and still had problems? How did you decide what was the problem? Did you change out the battery and cable?

Thanks,

Mike

It has been awhile since I tried this, but set up the radio first and temporarily configure it as a repeater. If you observe it rebroadcasting before you connect the base, someone is already using the selected frequency.
