I'm getting ready to try a Robot underground, (coal mine), for running a loop traverse. Does anyone having any experience with this? I'm using a Trimble 5600.

Thanks

I ran a traverse back into a cave about 1/2 mile once. No light makes it tough to see the setup points. I did it with a Geodimeter 650 but had a couple rodmen. They had to turn off their lights when looking back. Had some of those glow-sticks we wrapped around the prisms to make them easy to find.

I have seen a robot lock onto a small piece of quartz that was embedded into a mortar joint. One should take steps to ensure that the robot is truly locked onto the target. I usually just put my hand in front of the prism to see if it loses lock. Then once it locks on again, I lean the rod away and forward and watch the distances to ensure that it didn't lock onto something else during my initial hand test.

should not be any problems with the trimble. how high is the back going to be for setting your control. I have had no problems with the S6 or the VX locking on to anything but prisms underground. I don't remember if the 5600 has a retical light. If it does have it at is lowest setting.
