Me: Surveyor's office, how can I help you?
Little ol lady (lol): Yes, I was wondering if you had any 1 foot contour maps on my land about 5 miles out of town.
Me: No mam, I don't, I am curious why you need this.
lol: I own about 40 acres and am trying to get some grades to do some drainage improvements and my dear departed husbands old transit is giving me readings i do not trust.
Me: Would you mind running that by me again?
lol: I am trying to run "gradient" levels around my property so I can design some drainage improvements.
Much more to the conversation, but I am meeting her in a couple of days to see how I can help her out. She has been working on this for about a month and she seems to have a little knowledge and a lot of determination, I can not wait to meet her and see what she has done so far.
Maybe her husband has some neat old tools.

We need photos!!!
Sounds interesting.
B-)
Ric's into Cougars?? 😉 :-$
Sounds like she may have worked with him while using this equipment down through the years. No different than a farm widow running tractors and feeding cattle. You do what you know.
Please tell me that there are field notes, and a hand drawn contour plan for this project. I would love to see them.
If there is old survey equipment involved...
(Oh my dear Lady). I am loving this story, this sounds like the pitch fork couple in the museum. By all means, please can I see your favorite survey plot from her "office"?
Oh, by the way, can I see the plum-bob in her kit?
