There's a slick routine in SurvNET to renumber points in the raw data file, but we're in the middle of a job right now, not ready for processing our traverse.
Today, we began the project, and went to the field with some calculated points for the highway layout, generally point numbers between 500 and 644.
Begin on point 2, backsight point 1, foresight point 3, etc. Went up to about point 34 no problem, then did some calculations, transforming the 500 to 700 points to our field work. Went back to measuring points, but didn't notice that SurvCE assigned the next point number as 645, not 35. This pattern continued for the next 13 shots before I noticed it. 36 was 646, etc. I don't want the field point numbers to be in the 600 series, because those were calculated points.
My solution has been to download the files from the DC, process the RW5 file in SurvNET, using the "Renumber Points" tool, and renumbering points 645 through 658, and then upload the edited RW5 file to the DC, for our continued work tomorrow.
However, the coordinate point numbers in the CRD file now don't match, and my solution to this has been to go into File > Points, and manually renumber 645 through 658, one at a time, and then delete 645 through 658 one at a time. For, upon renumbering a point, SurvCE creates a copy of the point, leaving the original point number in the CRD file, thus turning 1 point into 2.
There must be a better way than this. I searched the SurvCE manual for the phrase "renumber" but got zero matches.
How would you handle this?
I notice that upon deleting the "extra" point in SurvCE (the one with the original unwanted point number), the software displays a quick screen with a message like "cleaning up", and "saving RW5 file".
So, if I noticed that a point number is incorrect after it is saved, does this routine suggest that simply editing the point number in File>Points and deleting the original point number will bring the CRD and RW5 files back into "alignment" so to speak?
UPDATE - Well, not really. I just ran a test, and upon deleting the unwanted point, the only change I notice in the RW5 file is that a store point record is created at the end of the file. The original raw data observation of the point still has the unwanted point number. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Carlson offers the owners of SurvCE their Carlson XPort software that has a number of utility routines that will do what you want.
You could export to ASCII, edit and import.
Here's a screwy idea. TRANSFORMATION - change the elevation by 0.00000001 and USE NEW POINT IDs with ADD TO POINT IDs. Then Delete the old points.

Thank you for your suggestion. I did not think to look at what XPort can do. I will check this out.
@big-al Sorry to revive an old thread, but I find myself in this exact same situation. I, however, do not have SurvNET. How did you go about this process in Carlson XPort? I manually changed the Pnt IDs and processed the data in XPort, but for some reason my coordinates are different slightly (by a few ten thousandths is all) so I am wary of continuing this way. Still looking for an easy way to renumber points in batch while retaining the RAW file and coordinate data in the data collector simultaneously.
