This should be happening all over North America !
Cheers,
Derek
Why are they putting a new reference nail and disk right underneath the older one? can't they just reference the old one and what it says on it and take their measurements to it? If the post ever disappears, both reference nails will go at the same time anyway. Maybe expending the energy to reference a new nail somewhere else would be more efficient use of their time. Reminds me of recovering an old section corner in the city and there were 5 or more references crosses on each of the curb heads.
Also, they should pay that poor rodman enough money to buy some new britches. The ones he has on are half worn off. Maybe the boss could have loaned him some pants for the picture-takin' day with the newspaper.

It does happen here in the Portland area, and to some degree in other parts of Oregon. Mike Berry is pretty active in Deschutes County. Washington State's PLSO does some of it as well. And Oklahoma's DOT causes it to be done in sections that touch on state highways. But it doesn't happen enough.
As far as the chainman's pants go - jeans are $12 a pair at Costco. Cost shouldn't be an issue.

Why do dogs pee on a tree that another dog already peed on?
Just a way of saying "My presence here was more noteworthy than yours".
On the matter of remonumentation, I agree, I wish more jurisdictions would see the value of land boundary infrastructure and invest in it like this.
