Last company I was with had a guy put a control rebar through a telephone cable. Sounds like easy mistake, until you see he did it 4 ft from a pedestal. It was static control for a large project. The point easily could have been set on the other side of the road. It cost the company 2500 for repairs. They were happy it wasn't fiber optics. I guess those repairs can be 10x's as much. Also there were some flags from a previous locate too. Faded but there.

Yeah...I have put a rebar (corner monument) through a main for irrigation, the top was only a foot deep. This was after the a****** foreman said, "Don't hit anything. I kept my response to myself, which was, if you built the stuff inside the boundary, we will be fine. He didn't. Stupidity was that the ALTA called for all corners to be set, even though the site occupied a whole block (with monumented centerlines).

The gas guys tell me that they don't put their side services more than 2' under ground as it gets to the house.

Cable/Telephone to a house are often buried just under the surface according to those guys.

Power...

My point is that are we going to give OneCall a go every time I set a rebar?
