Ok so I bought a second Epoch 50 unit to run a base/rover RTK operation. I bought the first Epoch 50 from the local dealer new. The second unit came from eBay and was in excellent condition. It included a case that was a little scuffed up so I stuck it under the desk. The new case had all the cut outs to house both Epoch 50 units. While browsing the internet, I discovered that you can buy foam inserts for Pelican cases that come scored so you can pluck out cubes to design the inside to suit your purpose. Over the past few years I have accumulated a few data collectors and accessories so I decided to create a Pelican case dedicated to my data collectors. The data collectors are a Ranger 3, Ranger 300x and a Nomad. Each gets used, some more than others.
It was very satisfying to be able to take an unused case that had a lot of life left in it, but no purpose and with about $45 investment create a transport case that would protect about $8500 worth of equipment for many years to come. I can't count the times I have left the office without the right bracket or with out the external 2.4 GHz radio unit. Now everything is in a convenient case that is ready to go. Look around your office or storage unit and use your imagination. You may have a new project just waiting.
Is this a great place or what????
Keep Wendell in mind when you have a few extra bucks, guys.
I just did something very similar last night with an old laptop bag that my wife brought home from work that was going to be thrown away. The bag was in pretty good shape, and it will hold all three of my data collectors, and the chargers. One pouch will probably hold the rod clamps/cradles. I like the pelican case much better.
