We had to measure some critical distances this morning. And I had the bright idea to use the Disto. Seemed like a slam dunk. Well, one problem, it's a new model I haven't used and I traded my old one for the new one. And we are measuring to odd angled walls from circluar columns.
UM...OH, ok, let's just call the office and see if we can measure the minimum distance to a plane. After all they HAVE the manual.
The answer; "nope, don't see that."
Argh!
So we set up a false coordinate system and shoot everything with the instrument.
Then when I get back to the office, I pull out the manual.

yeah, but that's not what they were thinking when they were listening on the phone.
