RE: original monuments

If you find a pin with no cap and it fits with the surrounding points found and located, why worry whether it is original or not.?ÿ I never call a monument or pin an original, my plan labels say mon found, IP found or IP w/cap found, or stake found.?ÿ In an older subdivision, how would you know if a point found were really an original unless it is autographed and dated??ÿ

Original corners get ripped out and reset often.?ÿ Unless I actually set the point myself, I don't know if it is original.
