@chris-bouffard The standards of evidence relating to boundaries allow us to make reasonable judgements. Of course there are things we cannot know beyond any doubt, but not even criminal law requires that level of certainty. The books we hold out as surveying gospel attempt to instruct us on this, but in the end appliable case law is the ticket. In most cases the preponderance of the evidence or clear and convincing standard will get it done.
If I see evidence supporting a monument as original I will include that in my narrative. If I have evidence a monument is a perpetuation of an original it goes in there too. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't put that information in the record.?ÿ
