But then what if
If if's and but's were candy and nuts; we'd all have a Merry Christmas!
It's probably not the right thing to do, but I usually go with my gut. I've been doing this 46 years, come next Wednesday, and find that if it doesn't smell right, it probably stinks.
My crew found a 1" iron pipe about a foot west of my calculated position. I asked if there was any indication that the pipe might be the corner; old flagging, broken cap, anything that might make you think it was the corner. He said no. So I said, set a rod with my cap on it, at the calculated position.
I talked to the client, later, when he called to pay me; and told him about the pipe. He said oh yeah, there's been some fill put in there and I put that pipe in, about where I thought I remembered seeing the corner.
Bingo! Dougie's gut was right, once again!
Another thing I do; think about what I will tell the judge, when he asks why I did what I did. And no, I'm not going to say "I went with my gut"
