I agree Dave.?ÿ While many things may have only tripled in price, there are several items that are significantly higher.
Looked up just a couple of key ones and found:
Median house price in 1984 = $72,400
Median house price today = $374,900
That's over a 5X multiplier just in buying a house alone.
Rents look like they have only gone up 3.5X average
Health Expenditure per Capita from a chart on the internet 1980s = $1,110
Health Expenditure per Capita from a chart on the internet 2010s (not even current!) = $8,402
That's a 7.5X multiplier
For car insurance it was over 5X as well.
Several food stuffs have only tripled.
Gas has only tripled (barring the current big jump).
