IMO, if you can't find entry level help perhaps you're looking in the wrong place. Maybe you are simply waiting for them to come to you?
How many of us have visited the college debates to recruit? Have you attended job fairs at the local college? Stalked talent at any civic events?
I hear all this howling of the death of the profession while we compare ourselves to burger flipoers and 1968 wages. We figure out ways to justify unlivable grunt pay while crying about the future of surveying.
I started at 319 a month (gross) and worked 70 hour weeks in every hell hole on the planet. So what? We just started a greenhorn at over 70k a year and it's paying off in spades. The first example is history, the second is a working model to build my replacement. They are separated by over four decades and have little to do with each other. We can either figure out how to succeed in the current environment or continue to make excuses while killing the profession.
