An elaborate resurvey just a few years ago showed a difference in latitude of only 2.3 seconds.
Is that taking into account the deflection of the vertical, i.e. the difference between astronomical and geodetic latitude? How close to perfect astro were they?
Good question. I suppose a list of only Xi values need to be examined.?ÿ
Eg, Crown monument:
39 43 16.94276?ÿ
77 46 ?ÿ00.5478 ?ÿ
Xi +1.48, Eta -2.15
that would indicate astro:
39 43 14.793
77 46 00.548
The research questions: exactly what latitude did M&D report at the astro stations, and?ÿwhich stones are they? And did they intend one constant latitude??ÿ
Stone #1.?ÿ
39 43 19.93037
75 47 28.9407
Xi -0.97 Eta -0.83
Astro. .?ÿ
39 43 19.100
75 47 18.941
