Looking to add wireless to my Ranger 300x.

Anyone use a CF 2 card for wireless? Or other...?

I plan on using a MIFI with the card to get on a VRS.

The 3g/4g MIFI doesn't have Bluetooth, but can run 20hours.

Looking for a card that doesn't drain the Ranger battery.

Some manufacturers state that G doesn't use the same power as a B card.

Not sure if there are any hardware restrictions in the Ranger preventing the use of G vs B.

I guess I could pickup up a Bluetooth smartphone instead, but not sure I would get the same battery life as the MIFI.

Thanks as usual.

My experience with this is that it is an exercise in futility.

Unless the card specifically has drivers that are compatible with the Window Mobile 5 OS on the Ranger 300X, there is no way to get it to work.

Most of those gizmos are for laptop computers and most of them come with WiFi standard anymore.

Others surely know more about this than I do but I would be surprised if this turns out like you hope if you pursue it.

Seems that many spec out Pocket PC or Windows CE 3.0 or greater for compatibility.

I found one (Socket p500) that mentions windows 5.0 specifically.

Perhaps the drivers can be added, if needed, via active sync or similar utility?

I thought I recall TDS literature that specifically mentions this WIFI CD Card capability. if so, they should have noted a specific card.

Thanks.

I don't mean to imply that my experience is definitive. Just that one of our outside sales guys tried to get one running for a customer a year or two ago to avoid upgrading his hardware and he never got it working.

And the key is having the drivers for the operating system on the handheld computer you want to run it on. If those are available, then it might just work...

We use a Samsung “Convoy” with an extended life battery for our VRS network connection on our R6 unit that goes with my crew. The battery that comes with it will last about 5-6 hours but the extended life battery will last at least 9 hours of constant data connectivity. I have run out of antenna battery power many times, but the phone always still has at least 1 bar of power left on it. I got a heavy canvas pouch with a loop on the back and mount the phone right on the pole. This is a flip phone with good construction that is durable and reliable.
