What do you use range pole for in survey work?

I use mine for extending sight lines while setting up a traverse.

Is there any other purpose?

Historic boundaries and conservation efforts.

Extending the rod height for topo shots. Poking ahead in dark waters for gators lying in the bottom that I cant see. Stacking online for cutting line. Whacking snakes if I dont have a machete or brush hook available.?ÿ Sometimes just for a lightweight 4' rod with prism and bubble.

I have an extended range whip antenna for my base and the way it is made I have to put an extension on it to attach to the tribrach adaptor. I could use a short stubby 1 foot extension but I use a 4 foot range pole section so I have my antenna up to 12 feet.

I also routinely carry one with my rover when I might need extra height to get that shot.

I've done 3 ranges poles with 6ft trimble rod a couple times, but it sway too much in all but flat calm. But I frequently can work with 2 sections and trimble rod on a heavy set of legs up to 20mph and 1 section up to about 35mph. Above that, I strap a section to a wood fence post and add from there.

I have one two section 8ft range pole that I purchased in 1975?ñ that was used daily until I got a TS and it did not work well as a prism pole unless I was just using the lower half and now it mostly stays behind the seat of my F150.

Poking ahead in dark waters for gators lying in the bottom that I cant see.

What about the gators that are lying on the bottom just outside the reach of the range pole?

Being a West Coast guy, any mention of alligators would cause me to pass on a project.
