Is anyone else noticing problems with the USGS servers today? A routine attempt to download a 7.5-minute quadrangle map via USGS Hitorical Topographic Maps resulted in a fatal error message about the server and likewise an attempt to download a 1965-vintage aerial image via Earth Explorer produced only an unanswered query of the server.

I certainly hope that this isn't the new normal since both data sources are incredibly useful.

[Edit: Never mind. Apparently, it was just a transient problem, possibly at the Austin, Texas end of the deal. Whew!]

Maybe in Texas the hard drive partitions are formatted using the gradient method. The data might be a good long ways from the sector in which it was originally tagged. 😉

I suspect that the problem was that I was trying to download imagery showing parts of East Texas and the server protocol required several requests just to demonstrate that it wasn't the mistake that it appeared to be at first impression.
