How do I view & print RAW data collector files from TDS Recon data collector. I retired my HP48GX TDS data collector which stored raw data files with an RW5 extension.

They are text files and can be opened with notepad. If you have Foresight DXM you can generate a nice rich text file and print that.

Paul, I connect to computer via active sync, and then copy "job file" to hard drive then just print it out using word.

I wrote a program that can take in these raw files and renders them nicely in a browser from which you can print. I don't think I still have it on this machine. That was a couple computers ago and written in a language I no longer use. I sent it to several folks. Perhaps someone here remembers it and still has the install for it. I think I called it the "Raw File Viewer". That has probably been 8 or so years ago.
Maybe not likely, but someone may still have it.

Hey, BigE.

I think I've got a copy of the RAW viewer utility that you wrote, but am not sure. I've got a RAW Viewer directory that contains a setup.exe file dated 3/14/2000, and a RawDCViewer.CAB file and a SETUP.LST file, both dated 07/29/2005.

If these are them, just shoot me an email and I'll send it to you to check out.

Print with notepad. All raw data files, except GPS files, and all rinex files are simply text, regardless of the extension, so notepad handles them quite well.

However, if you get the extension named to *.rw5, then you can print it from your raw data reducer (i.e. Carlson) and have a copy as well.

Since we have gone to this type of raw data, I do this. Feel free to copy or blast it.

I set up a folder named Raw Data, and under it DataXX where XX is the year. In that, I copy the RAW file, and leave it, unmolested. I then copy the same file to my data directory, which could be in Data00 for 2000 or Data05 for 2005. That is the file that I edit and reduce, so, if I ever make a mistake, I have an unmolested copy of the file. Also, because raw data stores points as well, this method also gives you a backup of all points you loaded into the data collector. It's a redundent method that I've only had to use once, but was VERY handy when I did it. The crew chief, while reducing data, deleted the store points from the raw data file, and somehow, deleted the coordinate file from the computer also. I was able to put it back exactly, by reducing the whole file, instead of trimming out the store points. Worked excellent.
