Unfortunately my trusty and reliable Disto Classic 5a took a tumble off a ladder yesterday and the internal screen shattered. I opened it up and it looks like the screen could be replaced easily.

Anybody know where I could get a replacement screen?

Sorry for the double post but I placed this in the wrong category yesterday but doesn't seem to appear on main board.

Tha's better than what I did several years ago. Put it in my vest pocket, opened a manhole, leaned over, and away it floated.

Sorry to hear about that.

Seco sells a vest with inside pockets with zippers. I keep mine in one of these pockets. Keys, wallet in the other.

Seems typical of our throw away culture. I could fix this very easily if I could get the part but it looks like it is just going to be no more use.

I've been looking for a supplier for a battery cover for several years. Post it up if you find someone.

Keep and eye on ebay for old, unworking distos. I've seen them, but not often. And most likely one will show up within a week of you buying a new one! 🙂

I had a 5A for a couple years but I found myself grabbing the $99 Stanley FatMax more than the Leica - so I sold the Leica. The only thing I miss about it was the 90° sighting feature which allowed me to get distances to farther away objects.

What is the model of the unit you need a battery cover/door? If it is a newer unit, this should not be a problem. For example, a quick search provides this door for the D3:

Thanks for the link but my unit isn't listed. I have the 'Disto Tape'... held together by... tape.
