> Is surveying inspiring to you, if so why?, if not why?

Adj 1. inspiring - stimulating or exalting to the spirit.
uplifting, encouraging, exciting, moving, affecting, stirring, stimulating, rousing, exhilarating

"Inspiring" may be a little on the strong side to describe how I feel about my job. After all it is a job and a means to an end. But with that said, Yes, I do find it exciting and stimulating. Enjoy detective type problem solving and working outside. Can not understand how people can work in factorys or at something they do not enjoy. But that is why we are all different and it is a good thing we are. My best friend loves his factory job, guess he is better at day dreaming than I.

Perpetual Notoriety

If nothing else, our recorded surveys are notice in perpetuity of our existence. Whether our work is considered poor, average or excellent will be determined by those unknowns who will follow our footsteps.

I get to work with tools.
I get to be outdoors some days.
I get to be indoors other days.
I get to work with math.
I get to draft plats and record them.
I get to open sewer lids.
I get to dodge traffic.
I get to map topo and utilities.
I get to know others by their work.
I get dig holes and find neat stuff.
I get to perpetuate boundaries.
I get to solve problems.

I dont know what could be better.

Perpetual Notoriety

You're right. I've never looked at it quite that way, Cowbreath. Even after the hundreds, no thousands, of old maps by old surveyors that I've examined, I have never really envisioned some future snot nose looking at my work and saying "Wow, this Blameuser guy really had his head up his butt on this one."
