Has anyone heard this term where it means a marked or carving in a rock? I was originally looking for a big rock that's, well, pointed, but I found what looks to be a smooth etching in a rock, and the distance checks out fairly well with the old plan. Well, the plan isn't really that old, 1979, but it looks like it was done in the 1800's, and was a compass and cloth tape survey, so as said, the distances check well, considering all that.
This is in Vermont, in case it's just a regional thing that I haven't encountered before.
Sounds like you should be looking for a pointy rock to me. But if you found something with carvings in it near the location you probably have it.
A couple of weeks ago I had a section corner with two references calling for pointed rocks. That's exactly what we found. Stones probably three inches thick and shaped to be triangular set in the ground with a nice point fairly evident several inches above ground level. That is the only recent case of having such a call. This was in an area with very few natural rocks.
Is there any chance that yours might have meant "painted" rock?
Could it be 'painted' instead of pointed?
Just trying to cover the bases.
Yes I heard that, you have the stone:cool:
Maybe a pointer rock?
If it is an old deed! Could the d be an r or look like an r?
I saw an old deed that gave a rough cardinal direction and distance to the "flat rock where the cows pee". Damned flat rocks where everywhere.
Pointing is a method of copying a carving, there are even pointing machines, you have the stone, go with it and be happy:)
