I have the opportunity to buy a used HP 650c. It sounds like it has been sitting around for awhile. Here is my question. How long does it take for the ink to dry and become unusable? Do you just run a plot every couple of months if it sits idle? I had an hp printer that did up to 11x17 and it wouldn't work after about 8 months of sitting. It wasn't really worth it to buy new cartridges so I gave it away.Any other thoughts on buying used plotters would also be appreciated.

Your post is timely

2 years past i purchased a canon IPF 610 and was pleased with the Initial cost $2700.00

The printer performes a weekly head clean to service cartridge

Downside LOTS OF 6 INK carts 6*$75.00= 450.00 per year
USE UP SERVICE CARTRIDGE 1*$75.00= 75.00 per year
NEW PRINTER HEAD 0.5*$450.00 = 225 year

total two years

I was told by my ink supplier to take the cartridges out and store them in a tupperware container. The ink does get old as well as drying out after it's opened. You might check with whoever does your maintenance on plotters and see if replacement parts are available. The last time I had my 405C maintained, I bought an extra belt, because it was considered obsolete by HP and they wouldn't be supply parts in the future.
