How's that for a reason to hurry to get a survey job done? The client is in his 80's. The purpose of the survey is to split his quarter section so that he can deed all but a few acres around the house to his daughter. He is a widower and she is his only heir. As soon as he gets the land conveyed, he is getting married.
I have to wonder if this is a shotgun wedding and the family wants the baby to arrive as close to nine months as possible.
I wouldn't sweat it. I heard this morning on the news that Hugh Heffner's fiance had called the wedding off. You've got some time now. 🙂
They need a pre-nuptual agreement. Then it won't matter when the property is transferred.
I had one not to long ago, where the mother called and wanted to give her son 500 acres before he got married in two weeks so that he would be the sole owner of the property. She told me that she was even going to make them push the wedding back if it could not be done in that amount of time.

a pre-nuptual agreement sounds like a good idea, it sure does give the divorce lawyers a lot to chew on.
Rather than divorce, the usual concern for older people is leaving things to their own kids and not to the late-life spouse's kids.
Well, if it's my daughter then I want her to have the property first before I get married again. My child is always a priority before my spouse. =)
