These are a few pics of a couple of the last construction projects for the season.

Road crossing replacement and track realignment in Uniontown, PA.

Road crossing replacement near Hunker, PA.

Nice pictures,
thanks for sharing.

Not sure what you mean with 'last projects for the season'
Is there no construction and/or surveying during the winter.
So you move elsewhere or have another job?

We typically do not do major construction projects like these in the winter. The cold adds additional stress to the rail especially when you are going to be welding it or moving it around a lot. They make rail heaters, but since we really only deal with about 200 total miles of track in 4 different geographic areas, we find it easier to just have the construction take place in the summer.

During the winter, I'll do some topo surveys so our engineer can design next summers projects. I also handle all of the entry permits for our railroads and I'm trying to get all of our val maps, permit applications and design specs scanned and on our website before the summer. There is always something to do.

It's soon to be mostly inside work for construction crews around here, looks like an early winter. They better have all their paving done by now.

It's not terrible here yet, I think the last of the paving will be done this week.

That's clear,
we survey all year long,
summers can be hot 35*C - 95°F
winter cold -15*C - 5°F most constructions sites are indeed halted then, but these are extremes.
