I know somebody that will not follow a recipie, because somehow that equates to following authority. And, their cooking is lousy. Really lousy.
I have seen crew members that would NOT follow directions, simply because it placed them UNDER authority. No matter what, they would modify your instructions, before obeying them. And, usually the modification was for the worse, and left havoc.
Know anybody like that?

I was thinking the opposite, i.e. Planners who think they have more authority then they actually do have, dealt with plenty of them.
You just described half the surveyors I know, including me.
What the??

No I don't.
And I'll use as much stinking salt as I want in my chile.
Or how about when those jack-booted thugs close the area so people can NOT get back to their houses after a disaster like a flood or tornado" I'd tell those guys to pound sand cause I'm going.
And shrimp in my jambalaya too!!!
People with authority problemsi
I fight authority...authority always wins. :music:

Yes I know many. Their problems stem from more reasons than one can imagine...of course if you have time to care and imagine.

But it does contain "Scurvy"
I don't think I am...but I'm sure my wife would tell you different!!!
The best field crews and cooks will modify the instructions when necessary. The distinction between the best and the ones to get rid of will readily become apparent.
A couple of years ago I was working with a Local Chapter on a seminar looking at survey data. They had an "example" job they were going to survey with several different technologies so we could take a detailed look at the differences in the measurements.
The gentleman in charge of gathering the data sent a crew with very specific directions to the site. Three times he sent them and every single time they ignored the instructions and did something else that defeated the entire purpose of the exercise.
After the third time, he saw the light. The crew was fired.
Trust me on this. If the people working for you are unable or unwilling to follow detailed instructions on procedures, you are better off without them.
Having said that, many of you know that I have some very serious issues with authority when the persons telling me what has to be done have no clue what they are talking about. (RE: Idiot planners who never bothered to read the rules and want things the way they want them without regard to what the rules say.)

That is right on Larry.
I am seeing some older surveyors, who keep some young studs, that are plumb outright dangerous. They keep them on, because they don't have the resources to train them right. I mean mental, and physical resources.

Education + communication = to prove that not authority , but a team for all to grow financially and mentally!

I don't pay no attention to people who think they have authority over me, cause they ain't got none. Them no-it-alls can stuff it where the sun shines.
I can relate to people not following instructions, given they fully understand the whys and wherefores of the instructions and are capable of doing the instructions one better. Like folks who cook their version of a dish from scratch without a recipe and their food turns out phenomenally better than any recipe you can get. There's a lot of real technical wizards out there like that too, whom I'd trust to operate without instructions.
And then there are the idiots who don't pay attention and can't get it right even when they do follow the instructions. Those ones deserve to get nothing better than a swift kick if they deviate even one iota from the instructions.
> Know anybody like that?
Yea..the entire world when it comes to obeying God's word.
