Has anyone tried using the parani bluetooth setup with a trimble non-robotic instrument? Am I correct in assuming it would work perfectly fine? I assume that the only difference between a robotic and non-robotic is the radio, a set of paranis would eliminate that issue. Am I over looking something?
Thanks.
I've never tried it, but I've thought about it, and I'm fairly certain it would work. You can pick up "Autolock" only units on ebay. I'd also love to hear if anyone has had success turning them into a full robot on the cheap.
Well, I should know within a week or two. I just pulled the trigger on a 1" 5600, non-robotic. I'll report back, fingers crossed.
There were "servo" models made without autolock.
Not sure how popular they would have been though.

Another question -- and I don't know the answer -- is whether the search capability is part of the autolock firmware or the robotic firmware. If the latter, then remote control of an autolock-only gun might be of limited utility. I'm guessing that data collectors rely on the gun's internal search when restoring lock, and trying to restore lock using only the joystick would be a frustrating experience.
Ah, interesting.. I didn't know that, now I'm a little concerned. :-S
Well, in a few weeks I may have an answer. I just procured a 5600 for parts and will try to integrate the Tracker into my old 5605 DR200+ that never had one. If that works I will get the necessary 606 glass + rods and maybe the Parani setup to see how far I can get it to go. Will give a report if it works or not.
