They should arrive sometime next week. Looks like I have a science experiment to work on next weekend.

I ordered from Aexeon Technologies, and got the extended battery packs.

Wish me luck!!!

Just mind the information in the manuals and you should be fine. Once I got mine configured, I never had to look back -- I just turn the units on and they connect with each other. If they lose the connection (like when I get in the truck and drive beyond range), they reconnect without intervention when they get back within range. It's pretty slick.

Oh, yeah: good luck!

I had been looking for something like this for a while but could not find anything. Guess I was searching for the wrong thing. I saw the thread below and discovered what I had been searching for. Ordered up a SD1000 with the external battery.

Tried to pair up with my laptop and it worked just fine. Tried to use my data collection software but could not poll the instrument and kept getting a comm. port error every time I tried to initiate a measurement.

I went back and re-read through the thread below and saw the mention of a null modem adapter. Dug an old null modem cable out of the "cable box" and added it to the equation and presto! Instant communications between my Leica and the data collection software on the laptop. It's been working fine with no problems thanks to what I have read here.
