by my own stupidity that a robot works far better once you remove the lens cap!

I'm gonna pain that stupid cap pink just so I can see it!

I use a Sokkia robotic that has a little door on the handle that has to be open for the acquisition to occur.

It is always a pain in the rear end when I set it up and then go to the back sight and then have to go back to the instrument because I forgot to open the door.

I also find that taking the cover off of the reflector is helpful.:-P

Been there. Done that. If you forget often enough and have to walk back to open the little door a lot, opening it eventually becomes 'habit' and you open the door whether you're working robotically or conventionally. Why the little door... I don't know (but probably a cosmetic reason) because behind the little door is a clear lense for the fan beam emitter. Seems like the clear lense could have been built right into the handle instead of tucked behind a door.

I also wonder why that little -seemingly useless - steel pin protuding from the bottom of that instrument exists. In lieu of voiding warranty, I ended up drilling holes in my tribrachs just to be able to use them with the SRX...

Then there is the blue tooth black out re-set you forget about. Oh yea, chargers.

Just like a good dog, something will go wrong. We have to deal with batteries, and quite frankly I'd rather have a dog.

i wanted to do the same with my tribrachs, but I was'nt sure that by drilling a large hole i would'nt somehow damage them.

Don't have any lens caps but I do have a detachable aerial on the logger to give me the walk of shame back to the instrument. It works within a few metres of the instrument without it so you can get connected and ready to go without noticing it's not attached.
