I purchased a couple of "oldies" recently. One is an old Buff & Buff Wye Level with case (I have a number of these) and the other is a little oddity that I have never seen before.

I did find it in a 1910 Dietzgen Catalogue:

The compass is in surveying format and reads to 30'. The horizontal circle has an upper and lower motion with locks and a vernier that reads to 5'.

An interesting little chunk of brass. Has anybody ever seen anything like this?

I sure haven't until now.

I got an old GURLEY transit off of ebay a few months ago. It is right next to impossible to pass up a real old pc of real survey equipment, when the price is less than $200.

I gotta have a whole assembly of equipment, to teach these young uns where surveying came from.
