I can remember carrying a magnifying glass to read the "A" & "B" verniers.

AA Grossmann St. Paul Mn. there are other hand levels out there with his stamp on them, just google it....

The appendage on the top likely encloses a short level vial; there will be a mirror inside the scope to read it. I would think it to be too short to be useful.

I found a link on another one that speaks to stadia - I figure it was a tool for leveling, so you can keep your FS / BS the same
