Hmm... Interesting standard practice. Why don't you guys just say that?
That's actually a better description of a basis of bearings.
This whole scenario is troublesome because of:
Feet (US? Int'l?) vs. Meters
State Plane Coordinates vs. Local Projection vs. Scale Factor = 1.0
GPS/GNSS vs Total Station?
And that's just in the first three "notes"?!
The survey control point, center corner, and nearest NGS point appear to be in locations less than desirable for GPS/GNSS. Got some trees, eh?
Within 3' using a stub-out? Sign me up to survey in those sections.
@michigan-left I guess has a lot to do with most of these guy’s didn’t get into using GPS until much later in their careers, so projections and such aren’t their strong point. Still a lot of flat earth surveyors around and these guys tend to be pretty fixed in their ways. For years before switching to GPS derived bearings, he did sun shots for bearings on just about all of his surveys, this up until about a decade ago. I don’t go around looking to pick fights with any of them and most will help me with their records and the back story when I need help figuring out what’s going on. Doesn’t mean I always agree with them.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
Yeah, there's quite a bit of that around here too. It's not too bad while they're alive, have their faculties, and are willing to share. But all three of those qualities are changing rapidly.
Document your metadata on the face of your drawings, folks!
@jitterboogie it's no evidence at all as nobody is saying anything contrary to the corner location except to say a conversation was had but not documented with the other LS who is blatantly being slammed in that note by hearsay conversation without documentation anywhere else.
I would love to see a copy of the plat, but, unfortunately, we don't have that, or, the testimony of the ajoiners either agreeing or disputing the location of the "erroneous" cap.
I don't know what the others think but to me, this is the classic sign of a graduate that is more into the books than the reality and practical resolution while quoting "facts of law". There are very few of us licensed Surveyors that are also licensed in the practice of law. These notes seem to me to be nothing more and a bold ethical violation and if I saw them in my state, I would surely pass them on to the board for action.
