Someone told me a NJ plat legally must have the surveyor's name and license number in a larger font in the title block than the rest of the info. Just curious if this is a law. Thanks in advance. No I'm not a licensed surveyor in NJ. Nor am I doing work in NJ. Curious minds just want to know.

NJAC 13:40-8.3

(c) The title block may contain the initials of the draftsmen or checker, and dates, drawing numbers, revision numbers and such similar incidental items are as customary in practicing engineers' or land surveyors' offices, provided that the name of the person(s) in responsible charge is readily discernible from the other information on the document and contained within the heavy borderline of the title block.

The Stake Board has previously interpreted this to mean the Licensed Professional's printed name must be the largest item in the title block.

That's a pretty arbitrary determination by the board. Readily discernible does not mean to me that it has to jump out at you, just hat it is readable and unambiguously labeled.

I Agree.

In the mid to late 80's a surveyor that I worked for at that time got a reprimand from the Board because "His name wasn't the largest item in the title block". He revised it, and sent it back to the Board for their approval. He used to keep the 'Approval Letter' hanging on the wall above his desk. A waste of the Board's time and resources.

My title block retains the "largest item in the title block". I do see a few younger Licensees title blocks do not follow this precedent, and I have not heard of any incidents with the Board. Different Board Members, different focus and interpretation.
