Ive noticed this past year that a bunch of new GPS makers are on the market.... Altus, Hemisphere, Champion Equipment. They all look about the same, like a slight variation of a Sokkia GRX 1 / Hiper II. Are all these rebranded Novatel Products? Chinese knock offs? They are all about the same price, too ... $ 9995 for a RTN rover.
They are not all rebranded so to speak. Rebranding would be like the Hiper 2 and the Sokkia GRX. They are exactly the same.
Most of the models you mentioned use a Trimble or a Novatel board, do not come with radios, or do and have PAC Crest and use Carlson software. Problem with some of the units are the generic/lower end hardware that is placed into the unit in addition to those things.
first they made us learn GPS, then GIS, now GSP?
what next?
sorry,
couldnt resist.

A number of those firms have been around for a while; either in other sectors of the GPS market (Hemisphere) or have been in the international market but didn't see enough growth potential to enter the U.S. market during a recession(Altus).
Is anyone using these? Im too entrenched in TDS to leave, but they don't look any better or worse than the Hiper 2 / GRX1 to me.
The Altus brand seems to be gaining some traction especially in Europe and has a good reputation. US company.
Champion is a Chinese brand making waves in the SE USA.
